Welcome to my pet page
This was My pet Monty, a wee African Land Snail sadly he died last year
You are likely to come across only two species of the Giant African land snail in captivity. These are the commonly-seen East African species Achatina fulica and the West African Achatina marginafa. Both species look very similar but the East African land snail is normally smaller and has a pointed apex (top of shell), whereas the snail from the west has a rounded apex. The only other way of telling them apart is the size and number of eggs produced. The West African snail produces only about six eggs at a time, which at l5mm are big for snails, compared with the eastern species which has eggs of 3-4mm, and can lay up to several hundred at one time.
